Texas Tech honors December CASNR graduates
Texas Tech University awarded diplomas to 2,370 students during December graduation exercises, including more than 90 from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources on Dec. 15 at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. Commencement speaker for the afternoon program was Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst.
Receptions for the colleges followed their respective ceremonies. CASNR's was held in the atrium area of the Animal Science Building.
Banner Bearer. Outstanding students carried banners representing their respective colleges. Matthew Daniel Sellers, an animal science major from League City, represented CASNR. Administrators selected the banner bearers based on all-around achievement.
Also recognized during commencement exercises were bachelor's degree candidates with the highest grade-point-averages in their respective colleges. Sellers was again recognized for his accomplishments.
Departments Represented. Graduation recipients included 31 from Agricultural and Applied Economics, seven from Agribusiness, one dual-degree in Agricultural and Applied Economics and Business Administration, one from Agricultural Communications, seven from Interdisciplinary Agriculture, 29 from Animal Science, and three from Food Science.
Other reciepient groups were two from Landscape Architecture, four from Environmental Conservation of Natural Resources, one from Range Management, 11 from Wildlife and Fisheries Management, six from Agronomy and five from Horticulture.
Dewhurst served as commissioner of the Texas General Land Office from 1999-2002. He began his business career in the mid-1970s after serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the U.S. State Department. He founded Falcon Seaboard, a Texas-based diversified energy and investment company.
