CASNR honored for support of FFA Career Show
The National FFA Organization paid tribute to Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources for its outstanding support as a 10-year exhibitor at the FFA National Agricultural Career Show, recently held at the Indiana Convention Center.
"We're honored to receive this award and plan to continue our participation in the National FFA Agricultural Career Show," said Cindy Akers, director of Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Student Services Center. "By participating in the show we're able to interact with the top students in the country and recruit them to our college."
Career Opportunities. The career show is an integral part of this National FFA Convention and highlights career opportunities for agricultural students. Representatives of agribusiness, universities and industry associations met with students throughout the three-day event, held October 22-24.
More than 405 participating exhibitors showcased the diversity of agriculture and its related fields and presented helpful information, in a trade show setting, at the 43nd annual show. Some 54,000 members of the FFA, their advisors, supporters and guests attended the convention and career show.
New Generation. FFA 2008 theme, "Step Up, Stand Out," celebrated student promise, spirit and success. The personal efforts members devote to personal, career and civic achievement engenders hope in local communities and inspires confidence in a new generation and future of agriculture.
FFA is a national youth organization of 507,763 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 7,439 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
