Tech AEC junior Logan Allen shines at Big Spring Rodeo
Texas Tech University junior Logan Allen wrapped up all-around cowboy honors as he led the Red Raiders to a positive showing April 16-18 at the Howard College Rodeo in Big Spring. The Tech men's team finished the event in the sixth place, while the women placed seventh among the 16 competing schools.
Allen took a fourth place finish in the first go round of the saddle bronc competition. Later he earned fifth in the finals and fifth in the overall average. The agricultural leadership major from Crescent, Iowa, and his partner Zane Barnes from Comanche also placed fourth in the first go round of team roping, fourth in the finals, and fourth in the overall average.
Other outstanding Tech riders were:
"Jay Manning of Ingram and his partner from South Plains College, Jerry Buhler, who
placed second in the first go round of team roping.
"Stetson Rasberry of Roby finished the overall bull riding competition in fourth place,
and earned a bye to June's college national finals rodeo in Casper, Wyo.
"Ashley Davis of Reform, Ala., had a fourth place finish in the first go round of
goat tying, fourth in the finals, and fifth in the overall average.
Southwest Region. According to officials, Tech men's rodeo team ranks second with 2,220 points in the National Collegiate Rodeo Association's Southwest Region, while the women hold the fourth spot with 1,428 points as of the April 10. In terms of individual all-around standing honors, Allen remains in a second place and Erica Crewsell is in third place.
Rasberry remains the second-ranked bull rider in the region, and teammates Chance Honey in steer wrestling and Jake Brown in team roping (header) have secured second place honors heading into the Southwest Region National Collegiate Rodeo Association Championship. Based upon his solid performance in Big Spring, Rasberry has already secured a position in the national finals.
One regular season rodeo remains for the Red Raiders. The Tarleton State University Rodeo kicks off April 23 to 25 in Stephenville. The final event of the season is the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., the second week of June. The top three individuals in each of the nine events and the top two teams in the region after the season's 10 rodeos qualify for the finals rodeo.
