Tech junior is all-around cowgirl; Rodeo team run continues
Texas Tech University junior Erica Creswell won the best all-around cowgirl title April 4 at the Western Texas College Rodeo in Snyder, while the rest of the Tech team continued to improve their rankings as the Southwest Regions National Collegiate Rodeo Association championship approaches at the end of the month.
The Red Raider men placed second out of 10 teams behind Odessa College, with host Western Texas College, Tarleton State University, and South Plains College rounding out the 'Top 5.' Tech's women's team finished third out of nine schools, behind Vernon College and South Plains College and just ahead of Eastern New Mexico University and Western Texas College.
Both teams entered their Western Texas contests fresh off solid performances at Odessa College. With two rodeos remaining to improve their standings, Texas Tech's men rank second in the Southwest region and the women rank fourth.
Impressive Performance. Creswell, a junior psychology major from Weatherford, Okla., earned points in breakaway calf roping and the goat tying events. Placing second in goat tying, her overall championship performance solidified the cowgirl's impressive second place regional rankings in both the breakaway calf roping and overall standings.

Top Finishers. Others placing or qualifying for the finals for the men's team include Jacob Nebeker, an agricultural communications major from Battle Mountain, Nev. in saddle bronc riding, Craig Leonard, an animal science major from Sonora, and Zane Barnes, an international business major from Comanche, in team roping, and Stetson Rasberry in the bull riding.
As of April 6, Rasberry, a business management major from Roby, has a solid hold on second place in the regional rankings for bull riding. Teammate Chance Honey also ranks second in steer wrestling. At the end of the region's ten rodeo season, the top two all around individuals and top three individuals in each of the nine events advance to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. The top two teams in the region at season's end will also advance.
Remaining Rodeos. Two rodeos remain in the team's run towards the Southwest Region National Collegiate Rodeo Association championship, with events in Big Spring and Stephenville in the next three weeks. The team saddles up next April 16-18 for the Howard County Junior College Rodeo in Big Spring.
