Agricultural education gets boost with Ritz addition
Rudy Ritz has been named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, according to officials with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He began his teaching and research duties on Sept. 1.
"Rudy brings a deep background in agricultural education to the department, especially in pre-service teaching preparation programs," said Steve Fraze, chairman of Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications.
Last year Ritz served as a visiting assistant professor in the agricultural education and communications department. At Texas Tech, he teaches management of supervised agricultural experience programs, methods of technological change, and agricultural systems management labs. He also plays an active role with student teaching instruction in the department.
Agricultural Science. Prior to joining Texas Tech, Ritz was an agricultural science teacher at Lubbock's Monterey High School, Ralls High School and Menard High School. He also worked as a graduate research assistant and teaching assistant in Tech's agricultural education and communications department.
A native of Meadow, Ritz received his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in agricultural education from Texas Tech. He is a member of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas.
Awards for Ritz include Texas Tech Agricultural Education and Communications' Outstanding Doctoral Student (2008), and Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas' agricultural science teacher award for teachers working with television media (2004).
