Irlbeck joins AEC faculty as assistant professor
Erica Irlbeck has been named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications, according to officials with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. She began her teaching and research duties on Sept. 1.
"Erica brings a wealth of industry experience to the students," said Texas Tech Associate Professor Cindy Akers, recipient of the Hemphill Wells New Professor Excellence in Teaching Award.
"I'm so honored to join the faculty in the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications here at Texas Tech," Irlbeck said. "I love this department and the people who work here, and I'm so pleased to be able to stay at this university." Recently, she was named the recipient of the '2009 Instructor of the Year Award' by officials of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
Irlbeck's research focus will be on agricultural communications, primarily agriculture in the television media. Her teaching duties include video production in agriculture, senior seminar and agricultural products and promotions.
Raised in Carmen, Okla., Irlbeck was active in 4-H and the National FFA Organization. She received a bachelor's degree in agricultural communications from Oklahoma State University in 1998. She then worked at KLBK-TV in Lubbock as an agricultural reporter and later a general assignment news reporter.
Irlbeck took a position as an agricultural reporter for Farm Journal Media's AgDay Television in 2000. Two years later she returned to Lubbock to work for High Plains Underground Water Conservation District and then at Lubbock's KLBK-TV. Irlbeck received her master's degree in agricultural communications in 2007 and her doctoral degree in agricultural education in 2009, both from Texas Tech.
