Allen named 'Reserve Champion All-Around Cowboy' at Vernon
The Texas Tech University rodeo team turned in strong performances last weekend at the Vernon College Rodeo in Wichita Falls, with the standout rides from Canada's Luke Creasy and Iowa's Logan Allen, officials reported today.
Allen was crowned 'Reserve Champion All-Around Cowboy' for his sixth place finish in the bull riding and second place finish in the bronc riding. He also placed first in the saddle bronc riding finals and finished second in the aggregate (average).
Creasy, an English major from Alberta, Canada, tied for third in go-round one, third in the short-go, and third in the average in the bareback bronc riding event. Creasy's performance helped him maintain his lead in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's Southwest region bareback bronc standings, said Tech Coach Chris Guay.
Other outstanding performers included:
"Sterling Smith, a senior exercise and sports sciences major from Post, placed sixth in the finals
and sixth overall in the calf roping.
"Clay Brown, a freshman agricultural business major from Stephenville, and Matt Pemelton, a junior
petroleum engineering major from Pharr, qualified for the team roping finals and ended
ninth overall in the competition.
"Bonner Bolton, a senior art major from Odessa, placed third in the finals and finished second overall
in the bull riding.
"Dani McGuire, a junior agriculture applied economics major from Gardendale, placed second in the
breakaway roping finals and tied for third overall.
"Taylor Langdon, a freshman animal sciences major from Aubrey, tied for fourth placed in the first
go and ended up eighth overall.
