Crunch time: Dotray receives Dow AgroSciences Peanut Research Award
A Texas Tech weed science expert was honored with a Dow AgroSciences Award for Excellence in Research at the American Peanut Research and Education Society meeting in Clearwater Beach, Florida.
Peter Dotray, a professor with Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science, was selected for the award in recognition of his outstanding research contributions to agriculture, science and the peanut industry. Officials with the society indicated that award recipients receive an engraved plaque and a $1,000 award.
Dotray, who joined the faculty in 1993, holds a three-way appointment with Texas Tech, Texas AgriLife Research and Texas AgriLife Extension. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota and master's degree from Washington State University. His doctorate in agronomy is from the University of Minnesota.
An active participant in regional, national, and international associations, he has served on boards and committees at all levels. He previously received CASNR's Service/Outreach Award, Texas Tech's Ex-Students Association Outstanding New Faculty Award and the President's Academic Achievement Award.
In addition, Dotray is a member of Texas Tech's "Teaching Academy," an elite group of professionals striving to bring together the best teaching faculty across campus. Founded in 1997, the academy has almost 200 members from throughout the university that support, promote and recognize teaching excellence.
