Livestock judging team takes first at Southwestern Livestock Exposition
Texas Tech's livestock judging team took command on Sunday (Feb. 6) at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition, taking first place at the livestock judging contest hosted by the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. The team won the sheep, cattle and reasons divisions, said officials with Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
Tech outdistanced its nearest competitor, Texas A&M University, by 19 points. The University of Arkansas, Kansas State University and Angelo State University rounded out the top five teams in the competition.
According to officials, Texas Tech had four of the top-ten individuals at the event. Kody Lucherk, a junior from Poth, was high individual overall. Clay Morrison, a junior from Midland, finished second. Sixth high individual was Brady Ragland, a junior from Wolfforth, and ninth high individual was Joel Riedel, a junior from Arroyo Grande, Calif.

The team is coached by Ryan Rathmann, an assistant professor in Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences and graduate student Bryan Bernhard. Texas Tech has two contests remaining this spring; the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
