Texas Farm Bureau NewsLink: Texas Tech students becoming 'agvocates'
Texas Tech University has hundreds of student organizations, yet one stands out and stands up to promote agriculture. The Texas Tech Ambassadors for Agriculture is a group of 30 students who travel around the state and country to tell the story of agriculture.
Their goal is to engage young people in discussions and opportunities within the agricultural industry. They primarily speak at youth events like FFA conventions and 4-H meetings. Trevor White, the organization's secretary and treasurer and a past FFA state officer, said in a recent university newspaper article that there is a future for young people and it's in agriculture.
White also recently competed at the American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmers and Ranchers meeting in Orlando. "There's a future for youth to be involved in agriculture and a need for young leaders to have a vision and a goal to make the industry better than it already is," White said.
The group addresses current issues facing the agricultural industry and the implications of ignoring global challenges. Lori Dudley, Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Coordinator of Student Development, said that this group works to represent agriculture in a positive light by sharing facts and figures in an interesting way.
"They are an exceptional group of students," Dudley said in the article, "and I'm very honored to be a part of the organization."
