Your World: West Texas Sustainability Conference set for April 21 in Lubbock
Critical environmental issues ranging from telecommunication, transportation, and energy to land use planning and environmental law will highlight a "West Texas Sustainability Conference" on April 21 at Texas Tech University's Law Center in Lubbock.
Pliny Fisk, co-director of the Center for Maximum Potential Building Systems, is set to deliver the event's keynote address, titled the "State of the Art Sustainability." The Austin-based center, established in 1975, is a non-profit education, research and demonstration organization specializing in life cycle planning and design.

According to program officials, one of the long term goals of the program is implementation of a multi-regional pilot project to illustrate applicability of sustainability efforts.
The program's presentations will include using the internet and smart phones to facilitate sustainability in small town America, using West Texas as a case study. Other topics include investigating means to efficiently promote renewable energy and connectivity in transportation systems to foster local sustainability of consumers, commuters, and industrial transit, as well as reviewing state of the art renewable energy systems with greatest potential for immediate implementation.
