Scott Cooksey receives NAADA Founders Distinguished Service Award
The past director of development and external relations for Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources was presented the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association's Founders Distinguished Service Award today (June 15) during the organization's annual meeting here in Lubbock.
Scott Cooksey, now Tech's associate vice chancellor for development, was recognized for his outstanding service and dedication to NAADA. "Scott has dedicated his time and energy to NAADA for more than 10 years, and has played a significant role in building our organization to its current state," said Mary Bushette, director of alumni relations with the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences.
More than 130 agricultural alumni and development professionals from across the nation were in the Hub City from June 12-15 as part of the 36th Annual NAADA Conference. Held at Lubbock's Overton Hotel and Conference Center, the program featured educational sessions, speakers and tours of the Texas Tech campus.
Memory Bennett, CASNR's coordinator of alumni relation, noted that Cooksey "motivates people to go above and beyond. He does this with ease, since he doesn't ask anyone to do what he isn't doing as well."
At Texas Tech, Cooksey works directly with college deans and development officers in the management of college development efforts, as well as overseeing the activities of the central and regional development officers and the planned giving office.
He served with CASNR from 1997 to 2008. Prior to joining Tech, he was director of development for a large non-profit organization in Atlanta. Cooksey received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas Tech, and he holds a certified fund raising executive accreditation.
Today, CASNR's development offices are led Jane Piercy, director of development and external relations; along with Bennett, Becky Bram, coordinator of college development and Tracee Murph, senior business assistant.
NAADA program officials noted that their organization is comprised of 44 of the nation's colleges of agriculture and related sciences, as well as individuals who are volunteers not only to NAADA, but also to its member institutions. Officials said the group is dedicated to the career and professional advancement of the alumni, development, student affairs and volunteer members of its association.
