Capitol Idea: CASNR's outstanding interns learn the ropes in Washington
Six students from Texas Tech's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources are spending their summer working as interns in the nation's capitol. Running from the end of May through the first of August, the college's summer intern program affords selected students an opportunity to experience first-hand the government's day-to-day operations.
"Intern selections are always an exciting and difficult process," said Lori Dudley, the coordinator of student development in the college's Student Services Center. "From the initial large group interview through the final selection, we had an excellent pool of candidates this year."
This year's CASNR summer interns include:
"Teryn Bibb, a junior animal science major from Big Spring; Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX19) and Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas)
"Clayton Gardner, a junior animal science major from Estancia, NM; House Committee on Agriculture
"Maggie Jones, a sophomore animal science major from Albuquerque, NM; Congressman Martin Heinrich (D-NM1)
"Chris Radtke, a senior wildlife management major from Kyle; National Turkey Federation
"Joel Riedel, a junior animal science major from Arroyo Grande, CA; American Meat Institute
"Will Rudolph, a senior interdisciplinary agriculture major from Glen Rose; Congressman Mike Conaway (R-TX 11)
Separately, CASNR's fall interns have been selected. They are:
"Caleb Crosswhite, a senior animal science major from McKinney; House Agriculture Committee
"Emilio Sanchez, a senior animal science major from Belen, NM; Congressman Steve Pearce (R-NM2)
"Laura Vaught, an agricultural communications graduate student from Lascassas, TN; Congressman Stephen Fincher (R-TN8)
During their stay in Washington CASNR's interns live at the Tech House, located just over a block from the Capitol Building.
