Texas Tech ag communications students shine at national ACT summit
Students with Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications walked away with multiple honors Sunday (July 24) at an agricultural media summit in New Orleans. Known as the National Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow Critique and Contest, the event drew university competitors from across the nation.
"Texas Tech received nearly 20 awards," said Erica Irlbeck, an assistant professor with Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. "We received thee overall division awards; Excellence in Writing for Kaci Waller, Excellence in Electronic Media for Katie Schlosser, and Excellence in Publications for Kelsey Fletcher with The Agriculturist.
The Agriculturist is a student publication of Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. Each semester students enrolled in a class called "Development of Agricultural Publications" produce the magazine from start to finish as part of their degree requirement.

Program officials claim that their agricultural media summit is one the largest meeting in the United States of agriculture industry writers, editors, photographers, publishers and ag communications specialists. According to the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow web site, its mission is to build relationships among agricultural communication professionals and college students and faculty, to provide professional and academic development for members and to promote agriculture through communications efforts.
