Former Masked Rider tapped for Ag Workers Academic Excellence Award
Former Texas Tech Masked Rider and current senior agricultural communications major Christi Chadwell has been awarded the Academic Excellence Award from Ag Workers Mutual Auto Insurance. The Garland native was selected from a pool of more than 40 applicants based on her grade point average and resume of her campus leadership and involvement.
"I've worked really hard in college, and this is a great honor," Chadwell said. "I'm very grateful to Ag Workers for recognizing and awarding students for their hard work in college." The honor includes a $500 scholarship award.
According to program officials, the award recognizes and supports the work of students pursuing a degree in agriculture, human sciences or natural resources management. Chadwell said throughout college, she has always tried to be as involved as possible.
"I threw myself into several clubs my freshman year," Chadwell said. "I've become active an all of my clubs and have even served as leaders in a few. I think it is so important because you are able to gain experience from a variety of different people and activities."
During her time in Lubbock, Chadwell served as Masked Rider for the 2010-2011 school year, president of the Sigma Alpha sorority in 2010, and participated in the student ag council as a representative for the Collegiate FFA Organization for three years. Additionally, she has also been active in the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Chancellor's Ambassadors, the Therapeutic Riding Program and various honor societies.
Agricultural Workers Mutual Auto Insurance Company was formed in 1948 for agricultural professionals. According to company officials, the firm provides multiple services including auto, homeowners and farm and ranch insurance to agriculturists and their businesses.
