In Profile: Trevor White takes Ag Council helm with a focus on service
Leadership impact player and New Home native Trevor White grew up with a resolve is to positively influence the agricultural industry. "I was raised in an agricultural setting and learned from an early age just how important the industry is," said CASNR's new Ag Council president.
"The belief "" that being involved in agriculture is one of the most important and noble professions that exists "" is one that I've held for years," he said in a recent interview. Ag Council represents some 20 separate CASNR student organizations.
The senior agricultural and applied economics major said he always knew he wanted to be one of the group's leaders. "I wanted to be an officer from the first time I attended homecoming breakfast as a freshman," White said. "I was struck by how unique of an organization it is."
The organization provides an opportunity for members of different organizations to come together with a common purpose and serve CASNR students, he said. For instance, last year White helped organize a college-wide canned food drive, which encoraged individual clubs within the college to donate and compete for the most amount of food raised.
More than 2,000 pounds of food was donated to the South Plains Food Bank. "My main goal as president is to make the organization have an even larger impact on our college and community," White said. "Last year's food drive really opened my eyes to the potential the organization has to really make a difference."
Last year White served as the Ag Council's vice president. Today, he serves as a CASNR senator in Texas Tech's student government, in addition to helping coach the wool judging team. During his time at Texas Tech, he's been a member of the wool, meat and livestock judging teams, Block and Bridle, and the Agricultural Ambassadors. Looking ahead, White said plans to pursue a career related to agricultural policy.
