Texas Tech's Guthrie, Langdon maintain lead in NIRA regional rodeo standings
The Texas Tech Women's rodeo team was named Reserve Champions on Oct. 15 at the Frank Phillips College/West Texas A&M Southwest Region National Intercollegiate Rodeo in Perryton. Bailey Guthrie, a senior exercise and sports sciences major from Rigby, Idaho, won the goat-tying championship with a time of 7.8 seconds in the finals to continue her title as reining Southwest region champion.
Current Southwest regional champion barrel racer Taylor Langdon defended her title by winning the barrel racing championship during weekend events. The junior radiology major from Aubrey rode her horse, Frenchy, to the fastest time of the weekend, 17.24 seconds.
Junior agricultural and applied economics major Josh Carden continued his winning streak in the steer wrestling event. After placing first in go round one, Carden, a native of Elberta, Ala., finished in a tie for second in the overall steer wrestling standings.
Meanwhile, Richard George, a senior agricultural and applied economics major of Red Oak, secured a third place overall win in bull riding. Texas Tech will host 15 colleges and universities next weekend at the 62nd Annual Texas Tech NIRA Rodeo at Texas Tech's equestrian center indoor arena.
