Winning Ways; Livestock judging team continues victory run at state fairs
Texas Tech's livestock judging team continued their winning streak by taking first place at the Tulsa State Fair (Oct.8 ) and the State Fair of Texas (Oct. 10). The team won each contest by more than 50 points and had numerous top-ten individuals.
At the Tulsa State Fair, Kody Lucherk, a senior from Poth, took home high individual honors, while teammate Jordan Clem, a senior from New Home, was only seven points behind him for a second place individual finish. Brandi Capps, a senior from Dewey, Okla., finished seventh.
At the State Fair of Texas, the team had eight of the top ten individuals. Clem won the tiebreaker with teammate Clayton Gardner, a senior from Estancia, NM, for first place honors, while Brady Ragland, a senior from Wolfforth, was only one point behind for third place.
Lucherk finished fourth place, teammate Clay Morrison, a senior from Midland, finished fifth, and Joel Riedel, a senior from Arroyo Grande, Calif., finished seventh. Loni Woolley, a senior from Grandview, and Logan Pritchett, a senior from Kingfisher, Okla., finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

The team is coached by Ryan Rathmann, an assistant professor in Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences, along with graduate student Bryan Bernhard. The team will still compete at the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo. before competing for the national championship at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
