Nationally-recognized horse reproductive specialist joins Texas Tech faculty
Jane Pruitt Bagley, a skilled horse reproductive specialist and well-known horse show judge, has been named a visiting associate professor in equine science with Texas Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences, officials with the university report. She officially stepped into her new post on March 12.
"We're fortunate to find a person with her credentials to fill this position," said Leslie Thompson, chairman of Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences.
Bagley will be instrumental in teaching courses and conducting research in horse production and equine reproduction, Thompson said. In addition to her academic duties, Bagley will coach the department's highly-respected horse judging and ranch horse teams, as well as oversee the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.
Prior to joining Texas Tech, Bagley served on the faculty of Missouri State University's equine science program for 12 years. In 2001, Bagley and her husband Scott began operation of Bagley Performance Horses, a cattle preconditioning and feeding program, along with development of Rafter Nine Reproductive Services, a management and consultation operation in the areas of breeding and embryo transfer. Both businesses were based in Dimmitt.
Thompson pointed out that Bagley is a respected judge, serving in many American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, Palomino Horse Breeders of America, National Reined Cow Horse Association, American Saddlebred Horse Association and National Snaffle Bit Association horse shows.
Bagley received her bachelor's degree in animal science and master's degree in physiology of reproduction from Texas A&M University. Her doctorate in reproductive physiology is from Texas A&M.
