CEV's Gordon Davis tapped for ACTE Business Leader of the Year Award
A longtime supporter and former faculty member with Texas Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences has received the "2014 Business Leader of the Year Award" from the Association for Career and Technical Education. Gordon Davis is the founder and chairman of CEV Multimedia, a Lubbock-based producer of career and technical education materials.
Program officials note that the award honors leaders of businesses and organizations that excel in contributing to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of career and technical education. Founded in 1984, Davis' firm provides curriculum and educational resources for agricultural science and technology, business and marketing, family and consumer sciences, trade and industry, and career orientation subject areas.
Davis previously served as an assistant professor and associate professor at Texas Tech and currently works as an adjunct professor with CASNR's Department of Animal and Food Sciences. In 1986, 1996, 1998, 2005 (2), and 2010, Davis co-founded six endowments for meat science excellence administered by Texas Tech, including the Gordon W. Davis Regent's Chair in Meat & Muscle Biology currently held by muscle biologist Brad Johnson.
Separately, Davis coached two national championship meat judging teams (Texas A&M 1973; Texas Tech 1989) and was the recipient of Distinguished Master's Graduate Student at Texas A&M (1975). He is the recipient of an outstanding teacher award and hall of fame distinguished service awards from the Department of Animal Science (Texas Tech 2004; Washington State University2008); along with the Tom Glazier Award for Texas FFA (2008); Passion for Excellence Award-Texas FFA Foundation (2008); and CASNR Outstanding Agriculturalist-Agribusiness (2009). CEV Multimedia was named to both the Governor's State of Texas Small Business Award and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Blue Ribbon Small Business Award lists (2012).
Program officials indicated that Association for Career and Technical Education is one of the nation's largest not-for-profit education associations. It is dedicated to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers. Founded in 1926, it has more than 25,000 members.
