A long-time friend and honoree of Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources has been presented the highest employee award given by Texas A&M AgriLife. Jaroy Moore received the 'Vice Chancellor's Award in Excellence' in the administration category on Jan. 9 at a special conference meeting on the Texas A&M's College Station campus.

The Brady native is Texas A&M AgriLife Research's resident director at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center at Lubbock. He oversees programs of 27 research scientists with an annual budget of $8.1 million

For years, Texas A&M and Texas Tech have had a fruitful research and academic cooperative arrangement, drawing on the significant resource strengths of both institutions. The most visible of these efforts is a dozen joint appointments between the two schools, focusing primarily of the Tech's Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics and Department of Plant and Soil Science.

"Jaroy Moore's innovative approach and quality leadership represents what the Vice Chancellor's Award is all about," said Michael Galyean, dean of Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. "He's truly an outstanding administrator and professional." Moore was presented Tech's 'CASNR Outstanding Agriculturalist Award' for public service in 2006. He received his bachelor's degree in agronomy and master's and doctoral degrees in soil physics, all from Texas A&M.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research is an agricultural and life sciences research agency. Formerly called Texas Agricultural Experiment Station, its name was changed in 2008. Headquartered in College Station, it operates 13 research centers throughout the state, including the one in Lubbock, located three miles north of the city's airport. Moore has been in Texas A&M administrative positions for decades, including 18 years as superintendent of the AgriLife Research Station at Pecos, three years as the resident director of research at El Paso and 15 years at Lubbock.
