NRM restoration ecologist honored at Society for Range Management meeting

Robert Cox, an assistant professor with Texas Tech's Department of Natural Resources Management, has been presented the "Outstanding Early Career Undergraduate Teaching Award" from the Range Science Education Council. The honor was given Thursday (Feb. 13) at the annual international meeting of the Society for Range Management in Orlando.
Cox said he enjoys teaching undergraduate classes in range plant ecology, plant identification, range improvements, and restoration ecology. He has research projects in community and restoration ecology, invasive species, and wildlife habitat management.
Separately, three graduates of Tech's Department of Natural Resources Management were in the spotlight at the meeting. Among the honors were:- John Malechek (BS 1964) "" Renner Award
- Mel George (MS 1969) "" W. R. Chapline Stewardship Award
- Angie Reid (BS 2007) "" Outstanding Young Range Professional Award
"This year's meeting brought many issues that impact rangelands across the globe to a focus including climate change and drought, tropical rangeland issues, invasive species and restoration," said Reid, who also served as the meeting's co-chair.
