Snapshot: Turfgrass Field Day draws a crowd to Tech's Quaker Research Farm
Joey Young, an assistant professor with Texas Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science, leads one of the morning presentations (top photo) at a Turfgrass Field Day at Tech's Quaker Research Farm. Throughout the half-day program (July 21) growing and maintaining top-flight turf was in the spotlight. Developed by Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, presentations focused on golf and athletic turf including wetting agent demonstration; plant growth regulators; pre-emerge herbicide; sodium removal from soils; irrigation audit demonstration; and carbon sequestration. Separately, there were talks on commercial and residential lawn care including buffalograss herbicide tolerance; introduction to drip system for turf; native plants for landscape; calibration demonstrations; irrigation audit demonstration; and general management practices. Extension personnel from Lubbock that helped plan, develop, and promote the event were Vikram Baliga (Lubbock County Extension Horticulture Agent) and Robert Scott (AgriLife Extension Agent for Lubbock County).
