Alumni agricultural environmental tour of Romania, Hungary deadlines approach
If you're interested in a faculty-led alumni agricultural environmental tour of Romania and Hungary, the deadlines for signing up are quickly approaching, said officials with Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources today. A $500 per person deposit is required to hold a place on tour. Fifty percent of the balance is due by March 11, and the final payment is due by May 4.
Along with sightseeing in Bucharest, Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca and Budapest, the tour will feature technical visits to a dairy farm, forestry exploitation, Turda Agricultural Research and Development Institute, University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, Turda Salt Mine, and traditional family farms, said Jane Piercy, one of the tour leaders and CASNR's Director of Development and External Relations.
In addition, she said, there will be a wine tasting at Rhein Azuga Cellar 1892 and Jidvei Winery, as well as a visit to Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Viscri and Sighisoara, Rejuvenate at Szechenyi Medicinal Bath in Budapest, and a dinner cruise on the Danube River.
The other two tour leaders on the trip will be David Weindorf, CASNR's Associate Dean for Research and Tech's BL Allen Endowed Chair of Pedology; and Cynthia McKenney, Associate Chair of Tech's Department of Plant and Soil Science and Rockwell Endowed Professor of Horticulture in Plant and Soil Science.
The cost of the tour is $2,500 per person (twin/double occupancy), Piercy said. Single rooms are available for an additional $610. Prices are based on a minimum of 16 participants. Also included in the cost is private motor coach transportation throughout tour; an English-speaking guide throughout tour;nine nights of accommodations in five hotels, two nights in traditional guesthouses; 11 breakfasts, eight lunches, seven dinners; visits, activities and entrance fees as indicated in itinerary (subject to change due to circumstances beyond control); and all taxes on lodging and included meals.
Among the items not included are airfare; alcoholic beverages, except included wine tastings; personal expenses, such as phone calls, laundry, room service, etc.; porterage; gratuities to guides and drivers; and travel insurance.
