GALLERY: New semester begins with special Agri-Techsan Training Day
Officials in Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were on hand for an Agri-Techsan Training Day on Thursday (Aug. 25) in the Goddard Building. Team building was the focus for the more than 20 students attending the full-day program for the college's award-winning organization of student recruiters.
Comprised of select undergraduates from every department in the college, the Agri-Techsans are a diverse group. Some are native Texans; others are not. Many live in rural, agricultural communities while still others hail from metropolitan, non-agricultural backgrounds. While the organization's diversity serves both Texas Tech and prospective students equally well, all Agri-Techsans have at least one thing in common "" their enthusiasm for the university and the college's programs, program officials said.
As part of their duties during the school year, the Agri-Techsans travel to high school career days, job fairs, class presentations, and club meetings throughout the region to inform prospective students about the university's admissions requirements, financial aid opportunities, and what it is like to be a member of the Red Raider family.
This year's session, led by CASNR Student Recruiter Brandyl Brooks and CASNR Graduate Assistant Delanie Crist, featured SteveFraze, CASNR Interim Dean; Cindy Akers, CASNR's Associate Dean for Academic and Student Programs, Scott Burris, interim chairman of the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications; along with several members of the CASNR faculty and staff.
Selected each spring for the following academic year, Agri-Techsans must be nominated by either a faculty member or a current Agri-Techsan, maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and be a full-time student in CASNR.
