CASNR's Homecoming Breakfast set for Oct. 15 in Red Raider Ballroom
Officials with Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are inviting friends from across campus and the region to the college's 55th Annual Homecoming Breakfast on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Tech's Student Union Building at 15th Street and Akron Ave. in Lubbock.
"This is an excellent opportunity to see and renew old acquaintances with graduates from all the departments," said Steven Fraze, Interim Dean of Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
The breakfast, which kicks-off at 8 a.m., will be held in the Red Raider Ballroom. Parking is available in lot R-13, east of Drane Hall. Attendees can enter the lot on University Ave. and 15th St. ADA shuttles will be available. The breakfast is free; however, to offset the cost, program officials are encouraging a $15 donation.
Following breakfast, other CASNR activities include a Department of Plant and Soil Science light luncheon at 11 a.m., where food and beverages will be served on the first floor and courtyard area of the Bayer Plant Science Building. Officials note that if the football game is scheduled for 11 a.m., the event will be cancelled.
Separately, the Department of Landscape Architecture, in conjunction with the Student-American Society of Landscape Architects, is hosting a tailgate inside a newly renovated Agricultural Pavilion. The event will be open four hours prior to kick-off.
Later in the day, the Red Raiders face the West Virginia Mountaineers. Visit www.texastech.com for exact game time and details. For football ticket information contact the Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG12 or (806) 742-4412, and for lodging information in Lubbock check www.visitlubbock.org.
CASNR officials note that there will be several activities on tap the day before the breakfast. Alumni, friends, and supporters of Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences are invited to attend the annual Friends and Family Event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 14) in the livestock arena. Honorees will include the 2016 Hall of Fame Award winners Jack Rhoades; CharlesGaskins; Amber Miller; and the Wayne and Mary Schilling family, along with meat science alumni award winners, and members of several former competitive teams including the 1986, 1996, and 2006 meat judging teams. To RSVP for the event, email moriah.beyers@ttu.edu by Sept. 30.
Meanwhile, Tech's Agricultural Education and Communications Alumni Association is hosting an alumni reunion from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the home of Dan and LindaTaylor, 19301 CR 1240, one mile west of FM 179 on FM 41 near Ropesville. The party will be come-and-go with a brief alumni association meeting following the meal. Departmental alumni and their families are invited to enjoy an evening catching up with old friends and connecting with fellow alumni. Admission is free, but a $15/plate donation is encouraged to help cover costs.
