Name: Kennadee Buchanan; Major: Agricultural Communications; Classification: Sophomore; Organization: Agri-Techsans; Hometown: Turkey, Texas; Month: September
Kennadee Buchanan, a sophomore agricultural communications major, has been named Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources September Agri-Techsan of the Month.
"I feel very honored to be selected as Agri-Techsan of the Month," Buchanan said. "Receiving recognition for my hard work makes it easier for me to keep working hard."
Her interest in becoming an Agri-Techsan started when she was in high school, and saw members of the group at National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. After seeing the impact that they were making on students' lives, Buchanan knew that she wanted to be a part of that when she came to the university.
The choice to attend Texas Tech and become a CASNR student was not a hard one for Buchanan. "I have never wanted to go to college anywhere but Texas Tech. I was born a Red Raider," she said. "Being a member of CASNR is being a part of a group that wants me to be successful in everything I do."
After graduation, Kennadee plans to move back to her hometown of Turkey, Texas where she hopes to become a teacher at her alma mater, Valley School, and continue to make an impact on education.
Brandyl Calley, CASNR's College Recruiter, said the student organizations does yeoman's work in promoting the college. The Agri-Techsans are the official student recruiters for CASNR. The undergraduates can come from every department, and bring with them different backgrounds from rural areas to large metropolitan areas.
Agri-Techsans give tours of the college's facilities, including the horticultural gardens and the meat laboratory on campus, as well as the research farm at New Deal, and the Texas Tech Equestrian Center in southwest Lubbock.
