Top students, faculty highlight CASNR Honors Banquet at Merket Center

Standout students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored Thursday (Apr. 18) at its annual Honors Banquet at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center in Lubbock. Sponsored by the CASNR Ag Council, the event featured a variety of honors including selection of this year's overall Outstanding CASNR Student, Kaylynn Kiker, a senior animal science major from Allison.
"To receive the overall outstanding student award means a tremendous amount to me," Kiker said. "Hard work pays off, and I'm so thankful for all the CASNR staff and faculty that have invested in me and helped me along the way." Following graduation in May, she will begin work with Elanco Animal Health as a cattle pharmaceutical representative in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

• Animal & Food Sciences: Kathrine Adams, Kerry Gonyeau, Sherri Halsted, Kaylynn Kiker, Thachary Mayer and Benjamin Mills
• Landscape Architecture: Leah Nega
• Natural Resources Management: Baylie Halbakken, Taylor Moose and Avery Smith

Separately, new Ag Council leaders for the 2019-2020 were recognized. They are Dylan Davidson, president; Conner McKinzie, vice president; Carson Read, secretary; Hayden-James Hughes, treasurer; and Taylor Schertz, scribe. Student Government Senators for 2019-2020 were Klay Davis, Ryleigh Carson, Conner McKinzie and Hagan Wright. The club of the semester for Fall 2018 was Collegiate FFA and Spring 2019 was Ambassadors for Agriculture.
Meanwhile, outstanding professor awards went to John Rayfield from the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications for Fall 2018, and Heidi Brady from the Department of Animal and Food Sciences for Spring 2019. Outstanding staff members were Cindy McCullough from CASNR's Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center for Fall 2018 and Charles Cooke from the Department of Animal and Food Sciences for Spring 2019.
In other action, Leah Nega, a senior landscape architecture major from Sunray, was presented the CASNR Social Science Researcher Award; and Hannah Decker, a junior plant and soil science major from Magnolia, received the CASNR Natural Sciences Award. Separately, Madeleine Thornley, a senior natural resources management major from Flower Mound, received honorable mention recognition. This is the second year these undergraduate awards have been presented.
Ag Council members include the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow; Agricultural Economics Association; Agri-Techsans; Agronomy Club; Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity; Alpha Zeta; Ambassadors for Agriculture; American Society of Landscape Architects; Block & Bridle; Collegiate 4-H; Collegiate FFA; Collegiate Horsemen's Association; Equestrian Team; Food Science Club; Horse Judging Team; Livestock Judging Team; Meat Judging Team; Meat Science Association; MANRRS; Rodeo Team; Sigma Alpha Sorority; Soil Judging Team; Student Association for Fire Ecology- SAFE; Tech Pre-Vet Society; Wildlife Society of Texas Tech; and Wool Evaluation Team.
