CASNR Homecoming Breakfast set for Oct. 19 in Student Union Building
By: Norman Martin
Officials from Texas Tech's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources are inviting friends from across campus and the region to the college's 58th Annual Homecoming Breakfast on Saturday (Oct. 19) at Tech's Student Union Building on 15th Street and Akron Avenue.
Kickoff time for the game has been set for 11 a.m. For the breakfast, parking is available in the Flint Avenue Parking Garage (18th & Flint on campus). Parking is free, and available on any level, and vehicles can remain in the garage throughout the game.
CASNR officials added that participants also have been given permission to park in the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center parking lot, located at 17th and University. It is a closer walk to the Student Union Building.
ADA parking spots are available in any lot, regardless of game day parking, including the SUB parking lot, as long as you have an ADA placard or ADA license plate. CASNR will also have a golf cart and Explorer going back and forth to help folks get to the SUB for the event.
The breakfast is free; however, to offset the cost, program officials are encouraging a $20 donation.
"A college tradition since 1961, CASNR's Homecoming Breakfast gives our friends, faculty and staff an opportunity to enjoy food, fellowship, student club and organization booths, a photo booth and more," said CASNR Dean William Brown.
Later in the day, the Red Raiders face Iowa State. Visit https://texastech.com/ for the game time and details. For football ticket information contact the Athletic Ticket Office at (888) GO-BIG12 or (806) 742-4412, and for lodging information in Lubbock check www.visitlubbock.org.
Following breakfast, Tech's Department of Landscape Architecture will host building tours for its renovated space in the CASNR Annex building at the corner of 15th and Detroit. For more information, contact the department at (806) 742-2858 or larc.admin@ttu.edu.
Separately, CASNR is teaming up with Capital Farm Credit to host a free tailgate prior to the football game. Visit www.texastech.com for official game times.
CASNR officials note that there will be several activities on tap the day before the breakfast. On Friday (Oct. 18) alumni and supporters of Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences are invited to attend the annual "Friends & Family" event starting at 5:30 p.m. at the livestock arena. Honorees include the 2019 Hall of Fame Award winners, meat science award winners, and members of several former competitive teams including the 1989, 1999 and 2009 Meat Judging Teams. To RSVP email alyssa.soles@ttu.edu by Oct. 10.
Meanwhile, on Friday CASNR's Wildlife Society will host their "5th Annual Game Dinner & Raffle" starting at 6:30 p.m. at the National Ranching Heritage Center. Program highlights include various raffles, sample game dishes, and an opportunity to visit with students and faculty.
