Determination from a Distance; Latest issue of ‘The Agriculturist’ launches
By: Norman Martin
The new print issue of Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education & Communications'
award-winning magazine, The Agriculturist, has been delivered and is available at several locations across the university's
College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.
"In March, our students faced unprecedented circumstances as we moved our courses to an online format to finish the rest of the semester amid the COVID-19 pandemic," said Lindsay Kennedy, Assistant Professor of Practice with Texas Tech's Department of Agricultural Education and Communications. "Although this brought about its own challenges, our students were trained and committed to producing this issue of The Agriculturist.'
Editor Haleigh Erramouspe noted, "The magazine you are now holding in your hands is the product of determination from a distance. From the ACOM block of 2020, thank you to our professors, advertisers, story sources and all those who have supported us throughout the semester."
The student-led magazine's cover story features Servant Leadership: David Weaver leaves lasting impact on South Plains Food Bank, Lubbock community by Hannah Van Der Schans of Frisco, Texas. In addition, the 110-page magazine includes some 36 student-written articles, along with the support of more than 80 advertisers from across campus and the region.
In addition to Erramouspe, this year's editorial leadership team included Maeley Herring, Associate Editor; Katelynn Butler, Associate Editor; Auden McBeath, Digital Content Editor; Dylan Davidson, Video Editor; Hannah Van Der Schans, Advertising Manager; and Sherrie Ray, Assistant Advertising Manager.
Each semester, students enroll in 'ACOM 4310: Development of Agricultural Publications,' to produce the magazine from start to finish. The course, which was led by Kennedy, serves as a capstone where students can utilize the skills they fostered through their undergraduate coursework.
