Davis College Honors Banquet recognizes academic, outreach efforts

Standout students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored in April as part of its Honors Banquet at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center. Sponsored by the Davis College Ag Council, the annual event features a variety of honors, including selection of this year's overall Outstanding Davis College Student Sophie Morris, a natural resources management major from Dayton, Ohio.
Recipients of the outstanding student departmental awards were:
- Agricultural & Applied Economics: Hunter Hudson of Allen
- Agricultural Education & Communications: Martina Martin of Franklin
- Animal & Food Sciences: Emma Lessing of Hondo
- Landscape Architecture: Anna Jenkins of Lubbock
- Natural Resources Management: Sophie Morris of Dayton, OH
- Plant & Soil Science: Robert Hanson of Forestburg
Students with the highest academic achievement in their respective departments were:
- Agricultural & Applied Economics: Walker Hemphill, Logan Schlegel, William Rose and Carson Rush
- Agricultural Education & Communications: Lane Cahill and Morgan Johnson
- Animal & Food Sciences: Caleb Kunde, Ashley Peterson, Shae Lynn Suttle and Elida Trostle
- Landscape Architecture: Allison Green
- Natural Resources Management: Avery Schoenherr
- Plant & Soil Science: Robert Hanson

- Macie Miller of Iowa Park – Sigma Alpha Rho
- Abigail Oliver of Schertz – Agronomy Club
- Emma Taber of Bakersfield, CA – Agri-Techsans
- Alexandra Tegeler of Huntsville – Meat Science Association
- Justin Crumpton of Midlothian – Agri-Techsans
Separately, Ag Council leaders for the 2021-2022 were recognized. They are Cason Lutrick of Godley, president; Ty Mitchell of Roswell, NM, vice president; Emmie Grace Mynatt of Fort McKavett, secretary; Jillian Pfeuffer, treasurer; Kallie Childress of Dalhart, scribe. The incoming Ag Council officers are Tyler Brimager of New Braunfels, president; Cassady Craddock of New Braunfels, vice president; James Grein of Cypress, secretary; and Chloe Krause of Stephenville, treasurer.
The Ag Senators for 2021-2022 are Jeremiah Neal of Jacksonville, Carlye Winfrey of Seminole, Ty Mitchell, Roswell, NM, and Clay Templeton of Kerrville. The club of the semester for Fall 2021 was Agri-Techsans, and Block & Bridle for Spring 2022.
Meanwhile, outstanding professor/instructor awards went to Melissa Sillivent, an instructor in the Department of Animal & Food Sciences for Fall 2021, and Glen Ritchie, chair and professor in the Department of Plant & Soil Science for Spring 2022. Outstanding staff members were Sandra Addo from the Davis College Dean's Office for Fall 2021, and Taylor Schertz from the Department of Animal & Food Sciences for Spring 2022.
Tyler Brimager from New Braunfels was named the Outstanding Returning Agri-Techsan; and Kassidy Bogle from Henderson was recognized as the Outstanding First Year Agri-Techsans.
In other action, Andrew Dotray, a natural resource management major from Lubbock, and Sarah Peters, an animal and food sciences major from Shiner, were named the 2021-2022 Overall Outstanding Undergraduate Researchers.
Ag Council members include the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow; Agricultural Economics Association; Agri-Techsans; Agronomy Club; Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity; Alpha Zeta; Ambassadors for Agriculture; American Society of Landscape Architects; Block & Bridle; Collegiate 4-H; Collegiate FFA; Collegiate Horsemen's Association; Equestrian Team; Food Science Club; Horse Judging Team; Livestock Judging Team; Meat Judging Team; Meat Science Association; MANRRS; Rodeo Team; Sigma Alpha Sorority; Soil Judging Team; Student Association for Fire Ecology- SAFE; Tech Pre-Vet Society; Wildlife Society of Texas Tech; and Wool Evaluation Team.
