NRM standouts bring home Texas Society for Range Management honors

Texas Tech Department of Natural Resources Management students were among those recognized
for achievement by the Texas Section - Society for Range Management (TSSRM) at their annual meeting on Friday (Oct. 21) in Denton, Texas.
Annie Braack and Madison McGinnis were honored as ‘Outstanding Range Management Students. Meantime, the Texas Tech Society for Range Management Plant Identification Team won second place in the plant identification contest. The team included Braack, Jillian Smiley, Steven Iida, and Virgil Epperson. Shaelyn Rainey served as the teams coach.
In addition, the Society for Range Management Undergraduate Range Management Exam (URME) Team placed first in the URME Contest. Braack, Iida along with Will Pfeiffer represented the department. Iida placed second individual and Braack placed third individual in the competition.
In other action, Caitlyn Cooper-Norris, an assistant professor in Texas Techs Department of Natural Resources Management, was awarded the Texas Section Society for Range Management Director Award. An expert in range ecophysiology, she joined the Texas Tech faculty in 2020. Prior to taking the position, Cooper-Norris served as an assistant professor in rangeland ecophysiology with Texas A&M AgriLife Research in Vernon, Texas.
The Jacksboro, Texas, natives research program broadly focuses on making advancements in rangeland management that will increase ranch profitability, enhance ecosystem services, and increase rangeland system diversity, stability, and resilience.
