Shelbey Havens, a highly respected and talented veteran of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources' Dean's Office, is returning to the college as Assistant Director of Development within Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources' Development & External Relations Office, program officials announced this month.

She stepped into her new position on Monday (Aug. 21). Prior to returning to Davis College, the Abernathy, Texas native served as Assistant Director of Advancement with the Texas Tech Honors College. 

“I'm excited to return to my home college and have the opportunity to continue telling alumni and friends about all of the great things that are happening at Texas Tech,” Havens said.

One of her primary goals within Davis College is to increase alumni and corporate engagement in order to build on the fundraising momentum for the college, said Alex Yack, Davis College's Senior Director of Development. Part the office's mission is to help individuals stay connected, informed, and involved with the Davis College community, whether that person earned an undergraduate or graduate degree, are the parent of a current student, or are simply interested in the mission of the college.

Havens previously served as the Davis College Recruiter, starting in 2018.  Based in Davis College's Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center, she was part of a group of professionals in the Dean's Office charged with recruiting and retaining the best students for the college. She oversaw all recruitment of high school and transfer students for the college and traveled to represent Davis College and Texas Tech at local, area, state, and national functions, as well as two-year institutions. Prior to that she worked as an office administrator with the Texas Senate Committee on Agriculture, Water & Rural Affairs.

In addition to Havens, the college's Development & External Relations office now includes Yack, along with Matt Williams, Director of Development;b, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations; b, Business Manager; and Sydney Taylor-Ballard, Administrative & Communications Coordinator.
