Brashears is an inaugural member of the NAMI Protein PACT Academic Advisory Council and was named a Horn Professor (2022) by the Texas Tech University System. It’s the highest distinction a faculty member can receive from the university. In addition, she served as the USDA Undersecretary of Agriculture in Food Safety (2019-2021). Her doctorate in food science is from Oklahoma State University.
