Mindy Brashears, an internationally recognized food safety expert at Texas Tech, was recently the subject of an article by PoultyProducer.com's Sophi Fairman concerning reporting of U.S. Salmonella data that might be skewed due to consumer perceptions. Brashears is an inaugural member of the NAMI Protein PACT Academic Advisory Council and was named a Horn Professor (2022) by the Texas Tech University System. It's the highest distinction a faculty member can receive from the university. In addition, she served as the USDA Undersecretary of Agriculture in Food Safety (2019-2021). Her doctorate in food science is from Oklahoma State University.
