Luis Sandoval, an international agricultural economist with years of statistical and econometrics experience both in Honduras and the U.S., has been named an assistant professor within Texas Techs Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics, according to Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources officials. He officially stepped into his new teaching and research post on Jan. 1.
“I am very excited to join the faculty at Texas Tech. From here, it is possible, so I look forward to having a long-lasting impact on students, the discipline, and everywhere Texas Tech has influence,” said Sandoval.
His research and teaching specialization is in food and nutrition security, sustainable consumption, adoption of digital agriculture innovations and quantitative methods, and his research program primarily focuses on sustainable agrifood systems and healthy and affordable diets.
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty, Sandoval served as an Institutional Research Coordinator and Associate Professor of Agribusiness at the Pan-American Agricultural School-Zamorano. Earlier he worked as a sales manager with Cadelga (El Salvador), and an agricultural consultant with Unifersa-Disagro.
Sandoval received his bachelors degree in agroindustry from the Pan-American Agriculture School- Zamorano. His masters degree in agricultural economics is from New Mexico State University. Sandovals doctorate in agricultural and applied economics is from Texas Tech.
Honors include the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association-Latin America Sections Outstanding Selected Poster Award (2020). He is a member of the Project Management Institute and the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association. In addition, he has served as a section editor and reviewer with the Journal Ceiba Editorial Committee.
Techs Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics currently has approximately 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, along with 475 undergraduate students, and 66 graduate students. The department offers bachelors degrees in agribusiness and agricultural and applied economics, as well as a concentration in international agribusiness with programs in Latin America, Asia, and Europe. It also offers masters and doctorate degrees in agricultural and applied economics, and a masters of agribusiness.
