Advisory board spring session centers on enhancement and engagement
By: Norman Martin
Texas Tech's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Advisory Board met Friday (Feb. 23) for a half-day strategic vision review and discussion sessions at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center. The program featured an introductory presentation by Davis College Dean Clint Krehbiel.
This was followed by a series of panel discussions on academic enhancement led by moderators Associate Dean for Academic &Student Programs Robert Cox, and advisory board member Jarrod Miller of Lubbock. That was followed by a session on university engagement by moderators Associate Dean for Outreach & Engagement Erica Irlbeck, and advisory board member Kevin Brinkley of Lubbock.
The morning session then moved to a review of development, alumni, and marketing with moderators Senior Director of Development Matt Williams, and advisory board member David Brimager of New Braunfels, along with state and federal engagement with moderators Associate Dean for Research Noureddine Abidi, and advisory board member Ben Holland of Canyon.
After a luncheon that included Davis College faculty and staff, Krehbiel moved to a review of Davis College's new ‘In Pursuit of Prime' initiative, which targets securing the future of food, fiber, health and regional resilience. The strategic vision calls for developing internal partnerships which fill gaps in research expertise; growing and strengthening relationships with external partners; and establishing state-of-the-art facilities that allow the college to deliver high-impact outcomes.
Krehbiel noted that one of the ‘In Pursuit of Prime' goals is to keep the college focused on delivering the highest quality education to Davis College students, pushing the frontiers with world-leading research, creative activity and discovery, and engaging with our region and state in ways that improve the human and natural conditions.
The Davis College Advisory Board is comprised of 24 members who represent the college's seven departments, along with the college's development and alumni relations office. While members come from varied backgrounds, all share a desire to serve the college and to further the aims and goals of the departments, he said. This, in turn, is expected to improve the resources available to Davis College and its students.
