AEC’s Gibson Receives 2024 TTPA Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award

Courtney Gibson, an associate professor within Texas Techs Department of Agricultural Education
& Communications, has been selected as this years recipient of a Texas Tech Parents
Associations Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award.
The recognition is based on a record of outstanding service to the department, college or university,
according to the Texas Tech Office of the Provosts Faculty Success Program.
Her award presentation is scheduled for Saturday (Apr. 6) at the groups annual Faculty & Student Awards Breakfast Reception at the universitys International Cultural Center where she will receive a plaque and honorarium.
“There are so many amazing leaders on our campus, and to be recognized as one of them is truly an honor,” said Gibson. “Our faculty, especially in Davis College, are some of the most dedicated, hardworking, and people-centered individuals you can find on any university campus, and I have had some great role models showing me what university leadership and service look like throughout my career.”
The Lubbock native teaches a variety of courses mostly focused on visual communication, graphic design, and print layout, as well as utilizing online media and the historical and theoretical foundations of agricultural communications. Meanwhile, her research broadly focuses on developing and enhancing student creativity, the impact and importance of visual communication and graphic design for agriculture, social media strategy, and risk and crisis communication.
In addition to her academic duties, Gibson is an active member of the universitys Faculty Senate and the Davis College Institutional Effectiveness Committee and serves as superintendent of the National FFA Agricultural Communications Career Development Event.
Previous winners of the Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award from the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources include David Doerfert (AEC) 2023; Courtney Meyers (AEC) 2022; Leslie Thompson (AFS) 2019; and Michael Farmer (AAEC) 2017.
Gibson, who joined the Texas Tech faculty in 2015, received her bachelors and masters degrees in agricultural communications from Texas Tech. Her doctorate in agricultural communications and education is also from Texas Tech.
