‘Donut Forget to Study for Finals’ Day Returns to Texas Tech Dairy Barn
By: Norman Martin
With finals just weeks away, Texas Techs Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources is once again offering a yummy reminder to bear down on the books. It will be offering free donuts to its students from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday (April 17) at the Texas Tech Dairy Barn.
"This event is for our Davis College students, reminding them in a fun way to study for finals,” said Jeanette Moya, a Student Success Specialist within Davis Colleges Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center. “Were having it a little earlier this time, so students are more prepared. Well hand out donuts to students until we run out.” In addition to tasty treats, there will be a table offering academic resources and study tips.
The following month the center staff will be offering a new feature for students, Dairy Barn Open Study Days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The facility will be available for Davis College students on Wednesday (May 1), Thursday (May 2), Friday (May 3), Monday (May 6), and Tuesday (May 7).
Charged with recruiting and retaining the best students for the college, the Student Success Center is a group of professionals housed within the deans office. The unit is named for long-time member of the Department of Plant & Soil Science's emeritus faculty, Bill Bennett.
Bennett joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1968 and was a trailblazer in raising money for scholarships to increase recruitment of students, in addition to spearheading creation of the colleges Ambassadors for Agriculture and Agri-Techsans programs.
Members of the center staff include Moya, along with Sandra Addo (2020) Program Manager for Graduate Student Recruitment; Michael Harper (2022) Program Manager for Academic Student Programs; Maeley Herring (2022); Program Manager for Student Retention; Haley Hudson (2022) Program Manager for Davis College Academic Student Programs; Madi Nall (2021) Administrator for Scholarships; and Jeremiah Neal (2023) Program Manager for Recruitment. The group is led by Davis College Associate Dean for Academic & Student Programs Robert Cox.
