Davis College Awards Ceremony Honors Outstanding Faculty, Staff Members

Ten standout faculty and staff members were honored for service and support of Texas Tech University's Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources Thursday (Aug.15) during a special evening ceremony at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center.

“As much as we are highlighting some exceptional work tonight, we’re also talking about exceptional individuals,” said Davis College Dean Clint Krehbiel. “They are certainly deserving recipients of these annual awards.”

The 2024 Davis College award recipients included:

  • Davis College Teaching Award: Courtney Gibson, Associate Professor (Department of Agricultural Education & Communications)
  • Davis College Research Award: Nathaniel Hall, Associate Professor (Department of Animal & Food Sciences)
  • Davis College Jr. Faculty Award: Muntazar Monsur, Assistant Professor (Department of Landscape Architecture)
  • Davis College Service/Outreach Award: Vikram Baliga, Lecturer (Department of Plant & Soil Science)
  • Davis College Service Award: Donna Mitchell McCallister, Assistant Professor (Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics)
  • Davis College International Impact Award: Jhones Sarturi, Associate Professor (Department of Animal & Food Sciences)
  • Davis College Student Advising Award: Jerrad Legako, Associate Professor (Department of Animal & Food Sciences)
  • Davis College Instructor Award: Cade Cook, Lecturer (Department of Landscape Architecture)
  • Davis College Staff Award: Matt Williams, Senior Director (Office of Development & Alumni Relations)
  • Davis College Research Staff Award: Ai Kitazumi, Research Associate (Department of Plant & Soil Science)

Earlier Thursday afternoon, Davis College leaders met with members of the Davis College Advisory Board for a half-day meeting at the renovated Texas Tech Dairy Barn. The advisory board agenda called for a state of the college presentation from Krehbiel, as well as review of Davis College strategic priorities and three-minute updates from department leadership. 

In addition, Associate Dean for Academic & Student Programs Robert Cox spoke on academic enhancement; Associate Dean for Outreach & Engagement Erica Irlbeck centered on university engagement; Senior Director of Development Matt Williams reported on development, alumni and marketing; and Associate Dean for Research Noureddine Abidi detailed state and federal engagement.

On Friday morning (Aug. 16) Davis College faculty participated in an assembly at the university's McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center with introductory comments were provided by Krehbiel, along with a detailed presentations on Davis College’s latest strategic initiative known as ‘Pursuit of Prime.’ It is an ambitious goal to be in the top 10% in every area, not just in the beef realm.
