Andrew Castilleja has been named an Assistant Professor of Practice within Texas Tech Universitys Department of Landscape Architecture, according to Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources officials. He officially steps into his new post on Sept. 1.
“Having been both a student and a graduate instructor in this department, Ive witnessed its remarkable growth firsthand. Its incredibly exciting to officially join the faculty and staff and contribute to its continued success,” Castilleja said.
“I am committed to inspiring the next generation of landscape architects to become stewards of the environment,” he said. “I look forward to working with students on real-world projects and helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this dynamic field.”
Prior to joining the fulltime Texas Tech faculty, Castilleja served as a graduate part time instructor in the landscape architecture department and was a doctoral candidate focusing on Land-Use Planning, Management & Design within the Texas Tech Graduate School.
Castilleja joined Techs landscape architecture department after completing his masters research, titled “The Oil and Gas Related Caliche Land Cover in the Llano Estacado Region: Opportunities for a Resilient Future” (2021). He received his BLA degree and MLA in Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech.
Looking ahead, Castilleja plans to advance his research on caliche re-use to include impacts of ecosystem restoration and phytoremediation approaches on mitigation of ecological impacts from the oil and gas industry. In addition, hes investigating the potential land use of produced water from oil and gas wells.
The Department of Landscape Architecture is one of seven departments within the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. It is accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board of the American Society of Landscape Architects that lead to a Bachelor (BLA) or Master (MLA) of Landscape Architecture.
There are eight faculty members in the department, with facilities in two campus buildings. Departmental and faculty offices are housed in the Davis College Annex with classroom and studio facilities. In addition, students have access to a renovated historic Livestock Pavilion. The Fall 2024 enrollment was 103 BLA students and 11 MLA students.
