LeehuLoon, a professor and chair of Texas Tech Universitys Department of Landscape Architecture, has been selected to serve as a new Director-At-Large of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards. Launched more than 50 years ago, CLARB designs, promotes and defends landscape architectural standards with its 56 licensure boards across, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands.
“Im excited for the opportunity to work alongside passionate individuals who share my dedication to driving positive change,” Loon said. “Working with CLARB aligns perfectly with my values of protecting the publics health, safety, and welfare while promoting professional licensure standards in landscape architecture.”
“Along with the CLARB Board of Directors, Im looking forward to facilitating collaboration, promoting strategic initiatives, and contributing to the growth and impact of our important profession,” he said.
The Bexley, Ohio native has years of experience as an educator, administrator, licensed landscape architect and advocate for the profession, and has volunteered with CLARB, the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA).
Prior to joining the Texas Tech faculty in 2022, Loon served as director of the Division of Landscape Architecture within the University of Oklahomas Christopher Gibbs College of Architecture (2014-2022). In addition, he worked as the Associate Dean for the Gibbs College of Architecture (2016-2021). Loon is also a licensed landscape architect who has practiced in Eugene, Oregon with Stangeland & Associates, and in the Washington, DC metropolitan area with Lewis Scully Gionet.
Honors for Loon include the ‘Gibbs College of Architecture All-Around Administrator Award for outstanding administrative leadership and service to the college (2019). He received his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from The Ohio State University. His master's degree in landscape architecture is from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech). Loon is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.
Texas Tech's Department of Landscape Architecture is housed in the universitys Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The latest official enrollment numbers released earlier this semester indicate the department is home to over 114 undergraduate and graduate students. The program specializes in semi-arid landscapes, while engaging design and planning issues critical to a sustainable, resilient, adaptable earth and its growing urban populations. Its professional B.L.A. and M.L.A. degrees are accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board.
