Since 2009, Danica Jorgensen has dedicated her life to being a coach and mentor for students within the Texas Tech University Equestrian Team. Jorgensons impact has been influential to many students and riders across the South Plains area. As students plan to honor her for the remainder of their season, their hearts ache as they reflect on Jorgensons unwavering dedication and passion that imprinted on so many lives.
“The team has dedicated the rest of the season by adopting the motto ‘Ride For Danica,” said Megan Knudtson, president of the Equestrian Team. “Every time we step on a horse, we carry her memory with us.”
Aside from coaching in the show ring, students who were under Jogensons wing said her ability to teach students how to carry themselves with confidence and to be proud of who they are is an impact that will last a lifetime.
“Danica built this team from the ground up, and we wouldn't be where we are today without her,” said Jessica Tan, western team captain of the Equestrian Team. “As we ride, well carry her with us in every moment knowing that by doing what we love, were keeping her spirit alive in all of us.”
Despite challenges the team has faced, their eyes are set on the upcoming Semi-Finals March 15-16 in Canyon, and Zone Finals March 29 in Roscoe, Illinois.
“We may not have her with us physically but from now on we will Ride for Danica,” said Addison Smith, hunt seat captain for the Equestrian Team.
Jorgensons impact and legacy will continue to live on through the students and riders she left a profound impact on. The team will honor their late coach on Sunday, March 30th at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Arena at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center.
