Earlier this month the Texas Tech Rodeo Team had a solid performance at the Howard College Rodeo, their fourth National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association rodeo of the spring semester, placing fourth in the Mens Team Overall and fifth in the Womens Team Overall. The NIRA competition ran from Apr. 10-12 in Big Spring, Texas.
According to Graduate Assistant Rodeo Coach Amanda Terrell, the Texas Tech team had 67 students competing against 658 total contestants in the Southwest Region, the largest college rodeo region in the nation. “We had 11 Tech vests representing Texas Tech University in the short round,” she said.
Among the Texas Tech Rodeo Team results were:
- Jacob Walters / Jeryn Ellerd (HC) (Team Roping) 6.5 in the long round – 6th | 6.9 in the short round – 3rd | 13.4 on two – 2nd average |100 points
- Jacob Walters (Tiedown Roping) 11.3 in the long round | 20.5 in the short round |31.8 on two – 9th average
- Jacob Walters (Steer Wrestling) 8.6 in the long round | 16.8 in the short round | 25.4 on two – 9th average
- Hayden Ford (Tiedown Roping) 9.3 in the long round – 2nd | 9.9 in the short round – 2nd | 19.2 on two – 1st average |160 points
- Cason Richey / Cutter Thomison (CISCO) (Team Roping) 5.3 in the long round – 1st | 10.7 in the short round – 4th | 16.0 on two – 4th average | 120 points
- Walker Dennis (ENMU) / Jarett Justiss (Team Roping) 7.3 in the long round | No short round time | 107.3 on two – 12th average
- Shaylee Baxley (Breakaway Roping) 2.6 in the long round – tie for 3rd/4th/5th/6th | No short round time |102.6 on two – 8th average | 25 points
- Tayler Eiguren (Breakaway Roping) 2.7 in the long round | No short round time | 102.7 on two – 10th average
- Kaylee Stroud (Goat Tying) 8.9 in the long round | 9.1 in the short round – 6th | 18.0 on two – 6th average | 20 points
- Morgan Addison (Barrel Racing) 15.97 in the long round – 4th | 16.06 in the short round – 6th | 32.03 on two – 6th average |50 points
- Taylor Baize (Barrel Racing) 16.03 in the long round – 5th | 16.1 in the short round | 32.13 on two – 8th average | 20 points
Looking ahead, Terrell noted that the Texas Tech Rodeo Team has more competitions, including Tarleton State University @ Stephenville, TX – Apr. 24-26, and the College National Finals Rodeo on Jun. 15-21 in Casper, Wyoming
