A longstanding holiday tradition at Texas Tech took on a renewed glow this morning as the Davis College Deans Office hosted its annual Christmas Open House inside one of the campuss most storied buildings: the Dairy Barn.

The event, held Dec. 11, drew faculty and staff from the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources, along with colleagues from across campus, for what has become a familiar seasonal ritual – a gathering built around conversation, camaraderie and a spread of holiday treats ranging from an assortment of desserts to hearty appetizers.
Guests were greeted by the colleges leadership team, including Dean Clint Krehbiel; Robert Cox, associate dean for academic and student programs; Noureddine Abidi, interim associate vice president for research & innovation and associate dean for research; Darren Hudson, associate dean for strategic initiatives and assessment; and Erica Irlbeck, associate dean for outreach and engagement. Professional staff from the Deans Office and the Dr. Bill Bennett Student Success Center were also on hand, adding to the sense of community that has long defined the seasonal celebration.
In brief remarks, college leaders extended warm wishes for the holiday season, encouraging attendees to pause amid the year-end rush and reflect on the moments that matter – time with family, friends and the small rituals that lend meaning to the close of the year.
Those spending the holidays in Lubbock were also reminded of another campus tradition: the 67th Annual Carol of Lights. First held in 1959 and once known as the “Christmas Sing,” the ceremony has evolved into one of Texas Techs most cherished seasonal events, drawing visitors to campus to admire its sweeping display of lights and the familiar glow cast across the historic core.
