West Texas Wide-Open Spaces

The vast grasslands, iconic sunsets, and grazing cattle define the spirit of West Texas. These wide-open spaces are not only the historic lifeblood of our region and culture but also home to diverse wildlife habitats and plant species that sustain generations of Texans.

At Davis College, we are committed to preserving this heritage through teaching, research, and outreach that emphasizes environmental stewardship, land management, and sustainable practices. Our mission is to expand economic opportunities, preserve natural resources, and engage the public in the benefits of these essential activities.

A Gift for the Future: 7R Ranch

When most people think of ranches, they often imagine sprawling pastures, dense trees, scattered wildlife and large herds of cattle. But that’s not the case for the 7R Ranch just down the road from Granbury, Texas – a ranch that one day will belong to Texas Tech and the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources. Located southwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country, the road between Granbury and the 7R Ranch is populated with homes, businesses and signs of more to come.
