Advising Mission/Vision Statement
The Arts & Sciences Multidisciplinary Studies program works through the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University to facilitate student success by preparing students through innovative interdisciplinary scholarship. Our program academic advisors advocate for our students and endeavor to broaden their educational horizons by offering a flexible path toward graduation, no matter where they are in their academic journey. Our commitment lies in empowering students to unveil their unique journey towards boundless opportunity.
Academic advising is a relationship between the advisor and the advisee that should
be an interactive, respectful, and professional partnership in which the advisor serves
as a guide on the students journey to academic achievement. Your
academic advisor is also an important campus resource.

What is Academic Advising
Academic advising is a relationship between the advisor and the advisee that should be an interactive, respectful, and professional partnership in which the advisor serves as a guide on the students journey to academic achievement. Your academic advisor is also an important campus resource.
Primary goals of an academic advisor include helping the student:
- Understand degree requirements.
- Remain on track during their academic career.
- Learn how to utilize campus resources and programs.
Majors We Advise
Arts Sciences Multidisciplinary Studies (ASMS)
- Multidisciplinary degree based on 3 areas of study
- 2 Areas from Arts & Sciences required
- 2 Different degree types available:
- Bachelor of Science: Based on 3 STEM-related areas
- Bachelor of General Studies
General Studies (GST)
- Multidisciplinary degree based on 1 broad area study
- 30 hours Arts & Sciences coursework required
- 1 degree type available:
- Bachelor of General Studies
- 90+ completed hours required for eligibility

Objectives of Academic Advising

Understand how to select appropriate courses based on your current major.

Understand how to register for classes using the Registration Tool on Raiderlink.

Identify and access campus resources that support your academic goals.

Identify your breaks (Winter, Spring, & Summer) & discuss your plans with your
advisor. -
Understand how to schedule your advising appointment using Raider Success Hub.
Expectations & Responsibilities of the Student
- Schedule & attend advising appointments.

- Share problems and concerns.
- Review DegreeWorks regularly.
- Ask questions & be accountable.
- Read and respond to emails.
- Take responsiblity for academic performance.
- Respect the advisor.
Expectations & Responsibilities of the Advisor
- Be abailable through scheduled appointments & emails.
- Clarify College of Arts & Sciences policies and procedures.
- Help develop, clarify, and modify academic goals.
- Discuss academic performances.
- Respect the student/advisee.
- Refer students to campus resources.
- Assit with course planning.
- Listen & ask questions.
- Respond to emails in timely manner.
- Adhere to FERPA confidentiality guidelines.
Communication Guidelines
Contacting Your Advisor
Email is the main line of communication with your advisor. All emails sent from your
advisors direct
email address or either of the following addresses are from either the A&S Multidisciplinary
Studies
advisors or deans office:
Notify your advisor immediately when a course grade of D or F is received, dropping a course, or withdrawing from the university. Together, you will need to assess the impact on your degree plan and graduation timeline.
Keep your advisor informed about any circumstances that could influence your academic
performance such as work schedules, illness, and family or other personal situations.

Use only your TTU email account.

Include your R number. We cannot help you without it.

Use a proper or professional greeting (“hey” does not count).

Include your first AND last name.

Clearly state your question or need.

Include course prefix and number for any course you ask about (i.e., ENGL 1302).

Expect a response time of 1-3 business days.

Do NOT resend emails or send multiple emails about the same issue. This does not expedite
response. -
Check your TTU email regularly (at least once weekly).

Expect advisor response during normal business hours only.

Dear Ms./Mr./Dr. Advisor,
My name is Raider Red. I am writing because I misplaced the course planning sheet
that we
discussed during our appointment last week. Could you please email me a copy? Also,
I would like to
add ENGL 1302 to my enrollment this semester.

Request an Advising Appointment
Scheduling Guidelines
All advising is by appointment only. It is recommended that your meet with your academic
advisor at
least once per semester.
Appointments can be held in person or virtually. Telephone are usually unavailable
due to FERPA
concerns.
No Show Policy: Students who arrive to appointments more than 5 minutes late will
forfeit their
appointment time and be asked to reschedule. Please notify your respective advisor
if you are
running late or are unable to keep your appointment.
Scheduling Instructions
Advising appointments must be scheduled at least 24-48 hours in advance using the
Raider Success
Hub platform.
- Access Raider Success Hub. Use your eRaider credentials to log in.
- On the Raider Success Hub landing page, click on Current Student Portal.
- From your student home page, click on Schedule Your Appointment.
- From the “Assigned” or “Teams” tab, locate the name of your advisor.
- Select a topic from those listed.
- Select an appointment date and time.
- Add the reason for your appointment.
- Choose your preferred appointment location (in-person or Zoom).
- Confirm the accurate entry of all information, then click Schedule Appointment.

- Click on Schedule Appointment button at the top of your homepage. – If you experience any problems with scheduling, please contact your correct advisor or reach out to as.multidisciplinarystudies@ttu.edu.

Academic Advisors
Your academic advisor can assist you with questions about the A&S Multidisciplinary
Studies Program, course registration, filing a degree plan and intent to graduate
form, consortium agreements, registration holds regarding course advising, or other
general inquiries.
