Please join the Geography and the Environment Program at Texas Tech University as we host the 2026 Southwest Division of the American Association of Geographers (SWAAG). Located in northwest Texas on the Llano Estacado plateau, Lubbock is a mid-size city that has a vibrant art scene, a rich cultural history, and a small-town feel.

- Hiking in the beautiful, rugged landscape of Palo Duro State Park, the second largest canyon in the U.S.
- Touring the urban landscape of the city, which was reshaped by a historic F5 tornado in 1970.

Call for Abstracts
SWAAG 2026 Invites Abstract Submissions for Technical Program
Southwest Section of The American Association Annual Meeting, Texas Tech University
in Lubbock, Texas
The organizing committee of SWAAG 2026 invites scientists, researchers, and professionals
to submit abstracts for its annual meeting taking place 30 September to 3 October
2026 in Lubbock Texas.
Students who wish to participate in the Student Paper or Poster Competition should submit their abstract through the regular abstract submission portal and indicate on the submission form that they would like their abstract to be considered for the competition.
Students participating in the competition must submit their extended abstract separately by email to SWAAG-2026@ttu.edu. Extended abstracts must be received by September 8, the same deadline as regular abstract submissions.

| Exploring the “Fermented Landscapes” of the Texas High Plains This field trip will tour the Texas High Plains by van with tour guide services from Texas State University Department of Geography and Environmental Studies resident “scholar-somm”, Dr Colleen Myles. You will travel from Lubbock, TX to Brownfield, TX and back again, with tours, field lectures, and tastings at two different Texas vineyards and wineries. Feel free to bring a packed lunch, or lunch may be purchased at the midday stop. The van(s) will depart from the campus on the morning of Saturday, 3 October (~9 AM) and return in the late afternoon (~4 PM). More details will be shared as the conference approaches. |
