Graduate Admissions - FAQ

  1. Can I submit my unofficial transcript and Unofficial GRE score during the application process?
Yes, unofficial transcripts and scores are allowed for the application, but once you arrive and start your program, you are allowed one semester to make sure official documents arrive or you will no longer be able to register for classes.

  2. Do I need to secure a faculty member before I can apply?
No, you do not need to secure a faculty member prior to completing your application, but to receive an RA position, that will only come from a faculty member because each faculty manages their own research accounts from the funding they receive. Therefore, it is best to have secured a position prior to coming.

  3. What are the possibilities of getting funding after securing admission in the form of Teaching/Research Assistantships in which it will come with a full tuition waiver, stipend, Health insurance etc?
Funding is never guaranteed with acceptance into the program. It is best to secure funding prior to arrival and with an assistantship position, you will receive the tuition and health benefits that come with an RA/TA position.

  4. Can I receive an application fee waiver due to financial incapability.
Unfortunately, our departmental policy is to not provide an application fee waiver so if you are able to secure a position from some faculty, you can ask them if their funding will support that fee and provide it for you.

  5. What English exams are acceptable?
The Graduate School has a link that outlines the English exams that are approved and the link to their site is: https://ttugradschool.force.com/admhelp/s/article/COVID-English-Proficiency

  6. What is the application deadline?
We allow a rolling admission, which means you can apply at any time. In general, starting in the fall term is better in order to secure and assistantship position, but there are times when funding comes available for spring admits.

  7. How much does it cost to attend Texas Tech?
Since tuition and fee charges change annually, the best source of information comes from our Student Business Services Tuition Estimator.
