The Launch: What is LYFE?

Launch Your Future in Engineering (LYFE) Welcome Event, hosted on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. in Livermore Center, is an event to welcome incoming freshmen and transfer students to the Whitacre College of Engineering.

During LYFE, you will learn about Academic Support, Career Services, special programs & events (including Mentor Programs), Global Experience Program, scholarship opportunities, student success specialists and other activities in the Whitacre College of Engineering. You will have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff members, as well as engineering students.

*Check-in is from 8:15 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. in Livermore Lobby*

Workshops include: advising, career services & opportunities, Global Experience Program, mentor programs, student services, student success specialists, scholarships & financial information, and more!

Launch Timeline: Schedule

  • 8:15 a.m. -  9:00 a.m.: Event Check-In (Livermore Lobby)
  • 9:00 a.m. -  9:50 a.m: College Welcome/Overview (IMSE 121)
  • 10:00 a.m. - 10:50 a.m.: Global Experience Program: Program Manager Dr. Katie Magana will cover everything you need to know about study abroad and international internships/research.
  • 11:00 a.m. - 11:50 a.m.: WCOE Advising: Review degree plans and get to know your academic advisor
  • 12:00 p.m. - 1:20 p.m.: Keynote Speaker & Lunch (IMSE 121)
  • 1:30 p.m. - 2:20 p.m.: Breakout Sessions #1 
    • University Coaching: Time Management (IMSE 117)
    • EOC Career Services: But I'm Just a Freshman! How to set yourself up for a successful engineering career as a first-year student.
  • 2:30 p.m. - 3:20 p.m.: Breakout Sessions #2
    • Red to Black: Beginner's guide to financial success as a college student. (IMSE 116)
    • Outreach & Engagement: Student Organization & Volunteering Opportunities for WCOE (IMSE 117)
  • 3:30 p.m. - 4:20 p.m.: High School to Engineering Transition Workshop & Engineering Ambassadors Real Talk Panel (IMSE 121)
  • 4:30 p.m.: End of Event

Breakout sessions take place in: IMSE 116, 117, 121, Livermore 101, 104

Breakout sessions will be released closer to the event date.
