Wireless Communications, Networking, Cybersecurity, and AI
Research in Wireless Communications, Networking, and Cybersecurity at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas Tech University focuses on advancing the theoretical foundations, enabling technologies, and practical applications of next-generation communication and information systems. Our research encompasses wireless communication theory, heterogeneous cellular networks, 5G/6G technologies, ultra-reliable and low-latency communications, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), semantic communications, and edge computing. Complementary research areas include multicarrier communications, digital signal processing, antenna and antenna array design, RF and microwave circuits, millimeter-wave technologies, electromagnetic modeling, and radar-based sensing. By integrating communication theory, signal processing, advanced hardware technologies, and intelligent algorithms, our research aims to develop high-performance, energy-efficient, and scalable wireless networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
Our research also emphasizes the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI), wireless networking, and cybersecurity to enable intelligent, autonomous, secure, and resilient communication systems. Key research directions include machine learning and reinforcement learning for network optimization, distributed and federated learning, trustworthy and explainable AI, AI-enhanced sensing and Internet of Things (IoT), and secure communications and computing. Cybersecurity research addresses physical-layer security, cyberattack detection, telecommunications infrastructure protection, and the security and resilience of critical infrastructure and cyber-physical systems. Through interdisciplinary research spanning theoretical analysis, algorithm development, experimental prototyping, and real-world applications, we seek to advance AI-native wireless networks, secure telecommunications, and intelligent sensing technologies for future 6G systems and beyond.
